Cancun 2 and back home

23 april 2011 - Cancún, Mexico

Back now, but wow that was a real adventure again. Generally I would get up, shower, meditate have breakfast where I'd bump into Graham and Catherine and then we'd go to chill out at the pool, play volleyball or table tennis and then at night we'd head to the pool bar for fun! And that... of cource.. for me constitutes quite the ideal life (meditation, enough sleep, sports and socialness).

Puerto Morelos
We walk to the nearby city of Puerto Morelos, which is an hour walk along the beach, have fun with stupid jokes on the way. We wanted to buy stuff, but instead went to have flower water at the bar and then walk back. I enjoy, but walk back; too far; ouch my knees.

Kara
Then Kara arrives! So strange to see her again, mainly because she looks exactly the same as I remember. Her boyfriend Elisha seems cool, which he in fact is, in fact he's a classic example of the ever ellusive self reliant man.

Tulum temples
Kara, Elisha, Rebecca (Rachel's sister) and I head over to the Mayan temples of Tulum. We rent a car, to which the rental does not have the keys, but we're brought over to some obscure location where after another 30 minute hold up in fact do get ourselves a 'Dodge attitude'. This slow pace is aparently typical for Mexico I am told. Since whenever someone is late they'd be like "I'm on Mexican time", to which I'd generally reply "well stop that then!". I'd rate the temples 8/10, mainly due to the turcois ocean in the background and them being carefully guarded by an iguana army! After we go to Paradise beach, which is near the best beaches I've seen in the world. I miss my girlfriend as I see Kara and Elisha play amidst te waves. Best part about the trip was generally the conversations we had, which grew gradually more weird, which resulted in some topics about people's balls, me confessing that I would never have sex with anyone's daughter (which is obviously a big fat lie) and the fact that I'm calling my son 'concernicus' (I mainly remember my own jokes obviously). The road trip reminded me of going to Drum Heller in Canada. This is also when I decided I did like Rebecca where I didn't previously.

Rachel
I hadn't hung out with Rachel much till then, but meet her at breakfast on the wedding day and we wonder around doing wedding stuff and I get the task to get everyone to sign the guestbook, which fulflled absolutely perfectly (me: "what's your favorite colour?, oh really it's yellow, that so nice, SIGN THE GUEST BOOK!"), even though Rachel kept trying to replace me psssh. At some point someone confused me with Tom exclaiming that they didn't remember him being so curly :P Obviously I was honored to be confused which an enigmatic character such as Tom :)

Wedding
The wedding was like a fairytale. The ceremony is what any little girl dreams about I'm sure. Rachel looked amazing and Tom seemed to remain remarkably calm under the whole situation. There was just a general feeling of happiness in the air. Lots of great speaches at dinner. Kara's was better than it had been in any of her dry-runs, Joey (Tom's reportedly shy brother) pulled off the funniest and most assertive speach of all with an epic poem, Noel 'improv-ed' a flawless humor filled speach and mine was okay as well I guess.

That night I actually get drunk, because I promised Kara I would. I remember trying to think in my head, but noticing I was saying it out loud while I was...fail :P Fun party. Een though some lunatic came over and asked me whether I was Rumpelstiltskin, but Kara's mom gets rid of him quite efficiently, or perhaps that was the night before.

Next day
Next morning I work out and beat 'the Americans' in an epic volleyball battle where I score a spike from 5 meters away from the net... "yeah suck on that bitches", actualy they were quite nice people but I was hung over.

Goodbye :(
And then all of sudden it's over :( I say goodbye to all my old and new friends and I' on my way. Catch cab with Erin and Matt, but say goodbye at airport. Stop over at Minneapolis, which is freakin anti-Terrorist fortress, rather than a Airport. I'll report verbatim my 'conversation' with the customs lady.

Me "Oh hello :)"
Her: "no, blue form please, BLUE form!"
Me "Oh, here you go, mighty nice day isn't it?"
Her: "Oh! Wat hae we here! You didn't fill it out completely!"
Me "Did I miss something?"
Her "Your first name! Now why would that be? Don't want me to know your first name?"
*grabs my passport and checks my name*
Her: "Oh you DO have a first name!" "alright you can go"
Me: Uhmm.. wait what? :S

So I get the hell out of there, before someone decides to hang me for possession of toilet paper or some shit. Go home and leave my baggage in the train! Arrgh! Get out at the wrong busstop, forget to change my dollars to euros and forget to check out with my transport card... time for sleep. Take nap and am happily reunited with my girlfriend who looked espeically amazing after not haing see her for a week :)

Friends
So many great people. I hung out a lot with Catherine and Graham who I had some epic conversations with and in general a lot of fun. Was also good to see Kara's parents again. I forgot what nice and laid back people they are. Same goes for Rachel's parents.

And of course meeting Kara and Rachel is always an adventure. Meeting them in Canada has always ranked amongst my favorite vacations, but this was definitely as good :) It also helps that their boyfriends are cool people.

New word of the vacation:
Impromptu (Prompted by the occasion rather than being planned in advance)

Expressions
'Nuclear Tipped Tomato'
'You and me both'
'One hundred AND millions times better'
'Vortex', 'hilaric' (gotta kep one of every past adventure)

PS: When my girlfriend woke me because I was snorring, I replied in English :P
