Eerste dag in Singapore

Go to the zoo. My favorites are still the (white) tigers en the otters. This zoo makes you feel like you're in nature. Because of jet lag and the temperature I'm at about 10% of my normal energy levels. It's really hard to walk through the park... I lie down a lot and sit by the polar bear enclosure, because looking at them makes me at least feel a little cooler. Lot of the times I feel like I(!)'m on display more than the animals, when a small asian kid can't stop himself from gawking at me :P
Go to see the water front and the esplanade theatres. It's dark by now and the theatres with the water loook really pretty.. and it's still really hot. Have a chicken burger, where the buns are made out of rise. It's quite nice. Food is really healthy here generally. And its shows, there are hardly any over-weight people here.
After this I go to Chinatown, which is not that special. I've also seen a bunch of Hindu temples, which are very colourful and I had never seen them before.
Singapore is really pretty and very well ordered and clean. It makes Amsterdam look like a big shit pile. You can't even find gum sticking to walls. Everyone sticks to the rules religiously. And what is even more weird is that I haven't seen ANY police.. yet their presence is strangely felt. So Singapore in general is very clean and structured, but I can't help but feel that people must feel somewhat surpressed. Everything seems to be about working hard and doing what you're supposed to and then comsuming the cool stuff. You would think that this surpresses creativity, but then I'm not sure if we're more creative back in Amsterdam.. perhaps we are. So on the one hand it shows the power of having rules (the order does make it pretty and you feel really safe)... but on the other hand it shows their restrictions. I think that if you agree with government's values it's probably a great place to live, but if you don't, then it's probably a horrible one. In any case I can see why my dad likes this place.. in a lot of ways it is like him.
Also the trees are really different from the European ones, but they're really awesome, so tropical and weird. They're also quite paranoid about terrorists here (have anti-terrorist instruction videos everywhere).
I got my hair cut today. Guy was like "WHAT?!! You dind't cut it in SIX months?" haha. It's really short right now (like there's literally hardly anything left). I like it, though I'm still getting used to it. Can't take pictures still because my camera is in the bag they still didn't retrieve. I'm slightly lonely.. the hostel is pretty empty.
Wat veel post al en wat heb je al veel meegmaakt! Dat verhaal van je reis is wel gek, zeg, goed dat ze zo goed compenseren. Maar ze moeten nu natuurlijk wel eens je rugzak bezorgen, want ik ben heel benieuwd hoe je er nu uitziet na dat kappersbezoek! Heb je al shorts gekocht?
Mooie beschrijving van Singapore geef je, met filosofische overwegingen... Hoe warm is het er? En leuk dat je direct naar de dierentuin ging. Is misschien leuk om steeds te doen als je ergens bent? Kun je leuk vergelijken. Jammer dat er weinig (geschikte?) mensen in het hostel zitten. Het is al snel leuker om samen met iemand de stad te verkennen.
Benbenieuwd om te horen wat je verder nog in Singapore gaat doen. Je bent er maar kort, he?
Hier alles kits. Ik heb alleen toch per ongeluk in mijn voet gehakt met dat nieuwe sikkeltje. Jij waarschuuwde daar al voor... Maar is al weer okee, hoor, pleister erop en klaar. Voortaan doe ik laarzen aan. En vandaag einelijk een onweersbui met regen: heerlijk voor de tuin. En vandaag ben ik naar een supergezellige borrel geweest met mijn oud-collega's in Almere-Haven. ben nog steeds bezig om op die masteropleiding te komen, hoop dat het lukt.

Rogier! Klinkt wel een beetje alsof het bijna scary is. Een beetje lonely voor even is niet erg. Waar ga je hierna heen? Wel tof dat je je haar hebt afgeknipt, lijkt me echt precies een goed moment, maar hoop wel dat je krullen terug zijn als je terug bent :) Ben ook benieuwd naar foto's!

Ik heb me rugzak nu dus weer en ik had ookal shorts gekocht. Ben ook wel wat gewend geraakt aan de hitte inmiddels. Ik weet niet hoe warm het is, maar zeker over de 30 graden. Ja, ik ga in Sydney straks ook naar de dierentuin denk ik, goed idee! Is ook wel chill als helemaal kapot gejetlagged bent, beetje naar diertjes kijken.
Cool dat het geregend heeft eindelijk! Verder klinkt het ook leuk. Hoop ook echt dat je op die opleiding komt, lijkt me zo leuk voor jou (en mij)!
Nina: je bedoelt dat Singapore scary is? Naah dat valt wel mee, voel me juist heel veilig, omdat het wel duidelijk is dat niemand iets fout durft te doen. Je gaat echt niet dronken een gevecht beginnen hier, want dan zit je straks voor 20 jaar vast. Daarbij ben ik ook nog 2x zo groot als iedereen.
Ja ik vind me haar wel cool nu. Laat ook beetje me 'facial hair' staan, voor zo ver als ik dat hebt. Check me foto's!
