Vlucht naar Singapore via Londen

19 augustus 2009 - Singapore, Singapore

I'm going to write the larger part of this blog in English, seeing as how all my Dutch friends read English, yet my english speaking friends don't all speak Duch.

I'm dropped off at the airport by my mother and Hanna. It's quite unreal still that I'm leaving. Even now I still don't really believe it I think. I'm sad as I wave to them while seeing them pass out of sight while passing through customs :(

Some douchebag puts their luggage on our plain, but doesn't board. So now they have to go find the bags, this takes an hour and a half. I miss my connecting flight to Singapore and have to wait for the next one (next morning). They put me in some really expensive hotel to compensate. As I look for my room, some American lady gopes: "how's it going?, nice shirt", without waiting for me to comment on either. I watch the Matrix 3 in bed and chill out.

The flight next morning is long (11,5 hours).... I watched 2 movies though (x-men origins and Star Trek), which I both quite liked. The awesome thing was that I was right next to the water tap, so I didn't even have to get up to get water! Arrive at Singapore; they lost my bag. Somehow I knew this was gonna happen (it had to change planes AND my flight got delayed). They'll bring it to my hostel and they gave me a 100 Singapore dollars (50 euros) to compensate. So, so far...  I've had a free night in a fancy hotel, two free meals at the same hotel, two meals plus snacks on the plane and they gave me 50 euros. So I haven't had to pay for ANYTHING yet and I'm only getting richer :P

Singapore is really hot. I don't have shorts on me now, but I'm gonna go buy some. What strikes me about Singapore is that, it is indeed very advanced (like my dad told me). Also rationality and strict rules seem to reign supreme. When I entered the metro system while drinking a coke I was threatened with a 500 dollar fine, if I didn't throw it away :P WTF?! And it's just like every square inch of this place has been carefully planned. And everyone's busy cleaning everything.

When in the centre I realized I had no idea how to find my hostel. So went looking for internet, found it in some mall, figured out the address of the place. By sheer luck I recognized a street near my hostel on google maps, as one of the metro stops. So I went back to the stop and starting wakling. Walked for an hour through the boiling hot sun... but finally arrived at my hostel!! I'm sleep deprived and extremely hot and I guess I had a 'horrible' trip here, but actually I feel everything went comparatively smooth. Didn't feel much stress at any point. I'm so chill these days! I'm gonna make a fantastic zen munk I think! Oh! I actually saw one of those in the metro, he was carrying a really advanced cell phone, which I found odd.

your photo at the top of your blog is damn scary :) it looks like you're about to go attack something of a not so savoury nature. Singapore sounds.....technological? Hope you enjoy it, and (since I forget everything people tell me), what are you actually doing there?
